WHAT IS ROOTS, SHOOTS & BEDS Good question! Roots, Shoots & Beds is a quaint little home stay nestled in the charming Himalayan ridge town of Kalimpong. It is run proudly by Mr. & Mrs. Gurung who want to share their beautiful home, culture and hospitality to those looking to experience the authentic eastern Himalayan experience. Mrs. Gurung is a great cook of authentic local mountain delicacies—peppered with traditional Himalayan spices and dollops of motherly love. Mr. Gurung loves to have a chat about the history, culture and bio-diversity of Kalimpong over some locally brewed millet alcohol which he prepares and stocks in his traditional bar shack within Roots, Shoots & Beds. Of course, it was part of his retirement plan. WHAT ‘PONG’? Uhm, Kalimpong? It’s a sleepy little town just 2 hours away from Darjeeling , Gangtok and Bagdogra airport with sunny side up ridges and lovely views of the Kanchendzonga mountains. It’s the trick most people miss while looking for the authentic Himalayan town experience. Kalimpong offers a unique holiday destination for the relaxed traveler, away from the bustling mayhem of the more touristic routes and yet retaining the charm of being a quintessential Himalayan town.
