Right on Malta’s Golden Mile, and overlooking Balluta Bay, the Hotel Plaza Regency Hotel offers guest clean, comfortable and newly renovated accommodation. The rooms, which can accommodate from one to four, have that no-nonsense modern feel to them. Each features en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, flat screen TV, work desk and telephone. Front facing rooms have balconies with views over Balluta Bay. The Hotel Plaza Regency’s main feature is its roof terrace with sparkling pool and spectacular sea views, but there is also an indoor pool for the cooler months. Wi-Fi is available throughout for a fee. There are several dining venues, including the elegant Penthouse Restaurant offering international cuisine to the more relaxed Rooftop Pool Bar for cocktails in the gorgeous sunshine. The hotel is centrally placed, and is close to the facilities of both Sliema and St. Julians. The Sliema Ferry, with trips to historic Valletta can be boarded less than a mile away.
Guests really seem to approve of Plaza Regency's location. They describe it as not only right on the water, with the sea view that entails, but also close to some great cafes, restaurants and bars in Sliema and St, Julians. They never felt they had to travel far to eat well or have a fun night out.
It appears that the rooms have been recently refurbished, and the guests have not failed to notice. Most are reasonably happy with the new décor, and also to have that “new room smell” as well.
Considering all the factors that came into play, guests who mentioned value at all tended to say they believed they received decent value for money at the Plaza Regency.
This was by far the most common, and most strongly voiced, complaint. Guests most definitely did not appreciate having to pay extra for Wi-Fi at all, let alone pay prices they considered extortionate. They were decidedly of the opinion that connectivity had become so central to peoples lives that it should have been included in the room-rate.
Though this did not apply to most rooms, some guests pointed out that there are some rooms without windows, and that they are rather dark and gloomy - definitely not what they were looking for on their summer holiday.
As is unfortunately often the case at hotels, several guests found that their requested bed type, usually for a double, was not honoured. So people wanting doubles had to put up with two singles pushed together.
