It's a great setting at the far end of Copacabana Beach - and one block away from it. It's much quieter here, although there are some ‘in-house' noises. Leme Beach is only 50 yards away and the hotel's shuttle bus or a taxi will get you to the airport. Lapa and Ipanema are a short taxi drive away ... Wonder if that girl's still there!
Rooms are large and spacious with plenty of space to hang clothing and store luggage. Staff members are friendly and helpful, although it's surprising how many don't speak English. Some do, though, so you'll get by.
You can't visit Rio without experiencing Sugar Loaf Mountain and the statue of Christ The Redeemer. Tours are easily arranged and they'll pick you up from the hotel. Come back to more great experiences, including the rooftop pool and bar, with fabulous views over Copacabana Beach. These form the impressive icing on this hotel's cake!
Water and air conditioning problems aren't unheard of, but they seem to create practical dramas here. You really have to persevere to get these problems sorted.
Street noise is another problem and it's strange that during the renovation of rooms, they decided to retain the old windows and forget about double glazing. Neither have they carpeted the corridors so there is a constant, footstep related clatter of shoes.
Cleaning and maintenance staff members maintain a frenzy of daytime noise; slamming doors and yelling at each other. Hope they enjoy it; the paying guest, in need of an afternoon's 40 winks … does not!
