Located in a very convenient position between Paddington Station and Hyde Park, Mina House offers basic budget accommodation to guests who would rather spend their money in the city, rather than on an expensive hotel. The 27 rooms have that modern IKEA feel to them, and feature en-suite bathrooms, work desks, closets, clock radios, flat screen TV’s and tea/coffee stations. Mina House is a compact budget property focussed on offering guests a great central location, and there are few public amenities in the hotel. Reception is on hand to assist with any queries or issues. There are no on-site dining facilities, but of course there are many options, for any taste or budget, in the surrounding area. Reception will be happy to offer recommendations. Both Paddinngton Station, and Lancaster Gate tube stations are about 400 yards from Mina House, as is Hyde Park.
Give its position, Mina House is of course a commuter hotel. Many guests were newly arrived at Heathrow, and were looking for a hotel near the Heathrow Express terminus. Mina House certainly fit the bill, being just a minute two from Paddington on foot.
While not all agreed that value for money was good, a few guests mentioned that they could overlook the hotels faults if they got a decent room-rate, and they were just staying there for one night before heading off elsewhere.
A large number of guests seemed surprised to report that the shower in their room was big enough for an adult, had good water pressure and seemed to have an endless supply of hot water. They found this most refreshing for a budget hotel.
The hotel has four stories and no lift, so even guests for whom maths isn't a strong point could deduce that the net result would be quite a bit of climbing. While nobody listed it as a deal breaker, guests on the top floor did get a bit weary of climbing up and down multiple times a day.
It was rare to find a good word written about the staff. Many guests mentioned that they were not at all welcoming when they arrived, and their attitude did not seem to improve during the course of a stay.
This was a surprisingly common and specific complaint. Guests simply said that it looked like the carpets in the hallway and rooms had not been properly cleaned for a very, very long time, and at this point really needed to be replaced.
