With its great location just a few hundred yards from the I-880, La Quinta Inn & Suites Oakland – Hayward offers both convenience and reliable accommodation. The rooms have a bit of an “old school” feel, but are very well equipped. Each features “Smart” TV, high speed Wi-Fi, microwave, minibar, coffee maker, hairdryer, clothes iron and telephone. The hotels star feature is undoubtedly its lovely courtyard pool. It’s the ideal spot to chill out and enjoy the California sunshine. There is also a business center to help put the finishing touches to that presentation and a laundry area for those who have been on the road too long. A simple breakfast consisting of continental staples, as well as hot foods like eggs and sausages, is available daily. The hotel is in a convenient position for access to much of the Bay area. Oakland is 14.6 miles to the north, while Palo Alto 22 miles away.
Guests were generally happy with the breakfast, saying it provided a decent variety to choose from. They seemed most impressed with the Belgian waffles. Like at other La Quinta properties, this hotel has a machine that allows guests to make their own waffles. They found this fun, and loved that they ended up on their plate piping hot.
Despite being close to the interstate, and right up against an executive jet airport, guests reported that they didn't really have any issues with outside noise disturbing them, either during the day or night.
Guests had many kind words when it came to the breakfast. While they did say that it was relatively simple, they felt that, considering their room-rate, it offered them more than their money's worth.
Unusually for a La Quinta property, several guests had quite severe problems with the Wi-Fi system. The upshot of the complaints was that the system was unreliable, either being down for long periods, or failing to connect them from time to time.
Though not all guests had problems, an extraordinary number mentioned that the staff at reception where either indifferent and unfriendly, or sometimes even rude, at check in. It did not give them a good first impression of the hotel.
A couple of guests mentioned that they had problems with guests on their floor smoking both tobacco and marijuana, despite the fact that it was a non-smoking hotel. Bringing this up with reception did not seem to do much to remedy the situation.
