Located in Ciudad Juarez’s upmarket Golden Zone, Hotel La Playa is a neat low rise property offering comfortable accommodation close to the city’s US consulate. The rooms have rustic furniture and decor and feature all the amenities you’ll need for a comfortable stay, including telephones and TV’s. Reception staff are available 24 hours to assist guests with local information, laundry and much more. There is a special division that can assist with US visa issues prior to application at the US consulate. There is an in-house restaurant serving Mexican cuisine, but there are also a number of other nearby dining options for those who would like a wider choice, from a Subway sandwich shop to elegant full-service restaurants. The main area attraction, or rather destination, is the US Consulate. It is just a few hundred yards down the road from Hotel La Playa. The US border at El Paso is 8.5 miles to the north.
It seems that most guests using this hotel were applying for US visa at the US consulate. To this end, they found the location to be extremely convenient, since it was just a very short walk from the consulate.
Most guests found the staff at the hotel to be quite helpful, both the staff that dealt with the hotel side of things and those who were there to assist with the visa applications.
The majority of guests commenting on the breakfast seemed to have enjoyed it. Many were happy that it was included in their room rate, and felt that, for a complimentary breakfast, it was actually pretty good.
This was far and away what most upset guests during their stay. Again and again guest would report that the furniture and fittings, in both their room and the public areas of the hotel, were many, many years past their prime. The fabrics were said to be threadbare and the furniture either badly scuffed or broken.
Guests were not happy with either of these amenities. The TV was said to be very poor, with only a limited number of channels. Guests were also unhappy that they were of the old cathode ray type. As for the Wi-Fi, there were numerous complaints, with guests saying that thy either could not connect at all, or that the speeds were simply too slow for modern applications.
A worrying number of guests reported that they were bitten by bed bugs during their stay. In their minds there was no mistaking it, they were convinced that at least some of the rooms/mattresses had a bed bug problem.
