The original use of La Ferriera, as the name suggests, was as an iron works, making agricultural equipment such as spades and ploughs that were used in the region. In 1875 a wealthy family from Milan, took over La Ferriera. Iron making was stopped and they started to make flour. The flour making took place where the restaurant stands today. The grinding stone still stands in the restaurant, and the water channel underneath the restaurant can be seen through which the water flowed for making flour. At the end of 1800 the building was sold to a town family. The new property started, in 1905, together with the flour working and the textile production.
