Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (Florence, Italy)

Brunelleschis überragender Dom beherrscht das florentinische Profil und kennzeichnet die Stadt. Die Kathedrale wurde zwischen den Jahren 1296 und 1461 erbaut, während die gotische Fassade erst im 19. Jahrhundert fertig gestellt wurde. 1334 übernahm Giotto die Leitung des Baus, der auch den Campanile (Glockenturm) plante. Filippo Brunelleschi stellte hundert Jahre später die Arbeiten der Kuppel fertig. Die Kathedrale sollte das größte Gotteshaus der Christenheit werden, daher dauerte es 150 Jahre bis zur Fertigstellung. Eines der interessantesten Wahrzeichen der Stadt ist der frei neben dem Dom stehende, marmorverkleidete Campanile (Glockenturm). Der Aufstieg führt über 463 Stufen zur 82 m hohen Spitze und der Besucher wird durch eine grandiose Aussicht auf Dom und Stadt belohnt. Öffnungszeiten: Dom: Mo-Mi und Fr 10.00-17.00 Uhr, Do 10.00-15.30 Uhr, Sa und So 10.00-16.45 Uhr Dommuseum: Unterschiedlich Glockenturm: Täglich 08.30-19.30 Uhr (April-Sept.); täglich 09.00-16.30 Uhr (Okt.-März) Eintritt: Dom frei Kuppel, Dommuseum und Glockenturm jeweils 5 €; Baptisterium: 1,50 €.
