Recent renovations to the hotel have been great! Rooms are more modernized with nice bathrooms and carpeting. When you make your booking, ask about the newly renovated loft rooms on the third floor. You will be glad you did.
The breakfast is definitely better than the average hotel serves, and it's free! The buffet hot breakfast includes scrambled eggs, sausages, waffles, cereal yogurt, all the good stuff you would be familiar with for a full breakfast. Iced tea is served in the lobby with cookies and apples. The only negative is the plastic cutlery. Dishes, cups, forks, etc, are plastic. It takes away form the quality of the breakfast and makes you feel like a little kid who can't be trusted with "real" dishware.
Long walks to the beach in the early hours is pleasant. There is a nice walking path close by and the neighborhood is idyllic and well maintained. A big supermarket is nearby and a car rental place too.
If you want to stroll along the boardwalk you have at least a fifteen-minute walk ahead of you downhill. Remember, you have to walk back up too! Hermosa beach is a long way and hilly at that.
It's tricky getting around. There's tons of traffic and no special transportation to get you from place to place. Besides, the hotel is near the main street so it gets quite noisy. In some rooms it's like your bed is in the middle of the street the noise is so intense.
The fitness room is a joke. There is one little treadmill, one bike, and one old cable machine. You'd think it was a playroom for toddlers all they need to add is a jungle gym.
