You pay in advance and there is a sign indicating that there are no refunds. In the event of any complaint – and there are plenty of those – members of staff are obviously well tutored in turning the tables so that the error appears to be yours, rather than theirs. It is the sort of place that you dread returning to at the end of the day. Cleanliness issues aside, it is a hot bed for prostitutes (*no pun intended!) and drug pushers.

There are giant bugs in the rooms. They obviously relish this odious environment more than you will. Disgustingly dirty floors, shockingly poor quality and unclean bed linen and towels, plus mold that’s growing for fun in the bathroom. Yep! It’s also worryingly noisy at night. It sounds as if other guests are constantly haggling over the price for services offered or, more likely, complaining because of non-payment.

‘They’ say it’s a half-way house for prisoners. Sounds feasible. They have to go somewhere but it’s not acceptable to expect paying guests to tolerate this environment. The two accommodation requirements don’t mix. They’re like oil and water.
