Situated in an ideal central location just minutes’ walk from the Uffizi, the Duomo and Florence’s main railway station, the Hotel Gioia Hotel offers classic Italian décor and hospitality in a lovingly restored early 20th century palazzo. A choice of sweet and salty foods is available at the breakfast buffet every morning, which also includes great Italian coffees. Reception will be happy to offer recommendations for other meals. The Hotel Gioia really is close to most of Florence’s attractions. The Uffizi Gallery is just 900 yards away, the Duomo 500 yards and even the Ponte Vecchio is just 0.6 miles to the south.
Guests staying at this hotel are mostly in Florence to see its major attractions. They seemed very pleased that pretty much all of them could be reached on foot from the hotel. It was basically impossible to find a guest who had something bad to say about the location.
It was extremely rare to find anything negative said about the conduct or attitude of the staff. On the contrary, most guests praised them for being friendly and enormously helpful. Some even spoke of feeling that they had become a little temporary family during their stay at the hotel.
Though some guests did have problems with the décor, most found that their rooms were spotlessly clean on arrival, and tended to remain that way for the duration of their stay.
This was mentioned a fair amount. Guests do seem to see the Gioia as a bit of a budget option, considering its great location and lower room-rates, but some still consider the décor too dated for the class of hotel it is. They believed that an update was long overdue.
It seems most guests had breakfast included in their room-rate. While grateful for this, they considered the breakfast rather meagre, and not sufficient to see them through to lunch.
Based on guest reviews, it seems near certain that rooms sold in the same classat Gioia can be very different sizes. While some guests speak of enormous rooms, others speak of tiny rooms and odd shaped and very small bathrooms. In the end, the guests in the very small rooms probably felt worse than if all the rooms in the hotel had been small.
