Hotel Extended Stay America Suites - Phoenix - Chandler (Phoenix, USA)

Members of staff are pleasant and helpful – to a degree. They don’t though, seem to know much about their own surrounding area. The 1st impression could be better; uniforms are disheveled.

Beds are comfortable and on arrival, you are handed a box of utensils for use in the kitchen. Strangely, it’s not left in the room; you have to go to the front-desk to collect it.

There are a number of people staying here for weeks, months, or even much longer. The price comes down, the longer you stay and a rapport is created with the staff members who become friendlier as time goes by. It’s easy to see the attraction of extended stays here.

The hotel is difficult to find because  directional signs are so small. Frustrating! There are plenty of signs, though, of maintenance and cleaning shortcomings. Rooms aren’t cleaned to an acceptable standard. When investigating why the mattress is so hard (*it’s on a hardboard base!) prepare to find rubbish under the bed from previous guests. Add to this, cigarette burns on the bedding and there’s cause for concern in the rooms.

You have to empty your own rubbish and go and collect towels and bed linen from the front desk. WiFi is slow but upgrading is a futile exercise – as it isn’t much quicker.

Don’t bother working up an appetite for breakfast. It’s very much a non-event with very limited choices. It’s not worth the effort. The best advice is - go to a café – before venturing in to downtown Phoenix. This is another issue, because downtown is a good 30-minute car journey away. Hardly local at all.
