The breakfast gets very positive reviews from travellers. It's basic, many say, but does the trick, and being served in your room is an unusual experience not to be had at every budget hotel.

Dam Square is packed with bars, restaurants, shops, and entertainment. The hotel is just minutes away, and other nearby sights can also be seen on foot.

The staff is helpful, considerate, and full of information on what to do when in Amsterdam. They just might help you lug your bags up the steps, too.

The steps are tortuously steep and narrow. Many guests comment on the “workout” they received by going up and down these devils and warn that some travellers might not be up to it.

A few rooms have shared toilets, and everyone pretty much agrees that this isn't an ideal situation.

Rooms come in varying sizes, and while some are reportedly roomy and spacious, other can be a bit wee. If you want one of the larger rooms, it's best to ask beforehand.
