Hotel Croc's Resort & Casino (Jacó, Costa Rica)

This is a beautiful resort on enormous, impressive grounds. Convenient location near downtown Jaco while adjacent to amazing wildlife, surfing, whale watching, deep-sea diving and rainforest tours less than four hours outside the United States. The pool is huge and gorgeous, there's a poolside snack bar with cocktails and you mustn't miss the live crocodile exhibit during feeding time.

Rooms are very pleasant and well-equipped with outstanding views.

The concierge and front desk staff are remarkably friendly and helpful, assisting with planning on tours and transportation and very knowledgeable on the attractions of the vicinity.

There's a musty, mildew-like smell throughout some parts of the hotel which many conclude is related to the air conditioning systems. Moisture build-up appears to occur around the units causing perpetual dampness which leads to the smell over time. Sometimes the air conditioning in some rooms is not optimal, either, even after technicians have worked on it.

Consider skipping the sea swim - the ocean in front of the resort is usually not a peaceful affair. Best bet: opt for the large and beautiful pool instead.

Although concierge is a delight, the servers in the restaurants could use a pep talk. You'll wait excessively long periods of time to have your order taken, to have your food served and for the bill. Do yourself a favor if you're in a hurry - or want to feel noticed - and go off-grounds for dining. There are many more desirable options elsewhere.
