About Castello Di Ristonchi

Situated on a height, the Ristonchi Castle overlooks the valley of the Arno leading to Florence. In a peaceful setting of woods and olive groves, on the borders of the State forest of Vallombrosa, it offers guests a unique view. Built in the Middle Ages, it takes its name from the Etruscan word for crest "Ristona". Formerly owned by the Lords of Quona, in 1248 it harboured the Guelphs driven from Florence and gave spiritual hospitality to the abbots of Vallombrosa. In the old castle you can see traces of the fortress walls that surrounded the little town overlooked by the tower, still bearing witness to its original military function, and the little church of S. Egidio (Saint Giles). A starting point for wonderful excursions of botanical and natural interest, along routes that can be travelled on horseback, on mountain-bike or on foot, through woods of centuries-old chestnut and spruce, the castle of Ristonchi is the ideal place for people that want a relaxing holiday where they can get way from the monotony of city life. Less adventurous folk can relax in the swimming pool or the vast areas of greenery available to guests, taste our genuine products, and enjoy the special atmosphere.
