Situated just a little up the hill from central Funchal, Molhe Apartments – Ponte Nova offers comfortable self catering accommodation to guests looking to explore this fascinating island. The apartments have a bit of a mixed modern and classical feel. Each features, en-suite bathroom, separate sleeping and lounge/dining areas, TV with cable channels, washing machine and of course fully equipped kitchen. This is more an apartment rental than an apart-hotel, and there are no real public facilities on site. Wi-Fi is available throughout, and the agents can be contacted in the event of any issues or questions. There are no restaurants or other dining facilities on-site, but there is a nearby supermarket for those self-catering. Otherwise, the agents should be able to provide dining recommendations if asked. While Funchal does offer some things of interest, the main attraction is perhaps the island itself. The spectacular Cabo Girao cliffs, some of the highest in Europe, are just 8.5 miles to the west.
Whatever other issues they had with the apartments, and there were some, guests pretty much universally declared their size to be very good. Some even seemed a bit surprised by their spaciousness, and said they were more than large enough for the number of people booked in.
It seems that a small group of apartments on a remote Atlantic island can get right what very few accommodation establishments anywhere can - have a universally admired Wi-Fi system. Quite a number of guests commented that the Wi-Fi was reliable and more than fast enough for their purposes.
This was probably what guests most appreciated about the apartments. They were described as quite central, with most of Funchal's key amenities being well within walking distance. They also didn't need to go very far to find a good restaurant or bar.
While not listed as a major issue, a couple of guests did mention little odds and ends were missing. Things like sink plugs, certain kitchen equipment and so on. Individually any one would not be terrible but it seemed that there were just too many.
Quite a number of guests mentioned that some of the pieces of furniture had seen better days. In their mind they really should have been replaced by now.
Specifically, the kitchen cupboards were bare. A couple of guests mentioned that there was not so much as a bit of salt or olive oil present, leaving them to feel a bit like Little Miss Muffet.
