Windsor Great Park (Windsor, United Kingdom)
Windsor Great Park is part of the Crown Estate, belonging to the Queen, and originated as a Norman hunting ground. Covering an area of 5,000 acres, or 2,020 hectares, it stretches from the grounds of Windsor Castle to Ascot and Virginia Water. Within the park are forests, parklands, lakes and a variety of wildlife including deer. Much of the park, but not all, is open to the public for walking and relaxation. Fishing, horseriding and flying model aircraft require a special permit. Highlights include The Long Walk, a straight path from the Castle to ‘The Copper Horse’, a hilltop statue of King George III. Savill Garden is a small, 35-acre park filled with a variety of flora. Virginia Water, at the southern end, is a large lake around which are an artificial waterfall and various antiquities.
