Victory Column (Berlin, Germany)

The Victory Column in Berlin was constructed to celebrate German victories on the battlefield and was originally in front of the Reichstag. Hitler had the Column moved to the centre of Tiergarten where it stands today, at that time there was 7.5 metres added to the height. It is located in the centre of a roundabout and pedestrian access is via one of four tunnels. It stands 66 metres tall and is crowned by a bronze statue of the goddess Victoria. There are 285 steps to a viewing platform inside but there is no disabled access. There is an entrance fee of €2.20 but if you present your ticket at the café 0.50 will be reduced from your bill. As well as the small café there is a shop and an exhibition about events in German history. Opening times are Monday 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday to Sunday and Bank Holidays 09:00 am to 6:00 pm.
