Upper Rock Nature Reserve (Gibraltar, Gibraltar)

The Rock of Gibraltar is a limestone promontory that is located off the south west tip of mainland Spain. It rises to a height of 426 metres above sea level and it is the crown property of the United Kingdom. It is sometimes referred to as the Pillars of Hercules, or by its Latin name, Calpe. The upper area of the rock is a designated nature reserve and is home to a colony of approximately 250 Barbary Macaques, which are colloquially referred to as Apes. This is the only location in Europe where wild Monkeys can be found. Within the reserve there are many attractions that can be found including St. Michaels Cave, Monkeys Den, Great Siege Tunnels and the Moorish Castle. Admission into the reserve is between 9.30am and 7pm and is by entrance ticket. The admission charges are as follows: Adults - £7.00 (10.5 Euros) Children (5-12 years) - £4.00 (6 Euros) Children age 4 years and under - Free The admission price includes entry into the other attractions within the reserve.
