The Guildhall (Northampton, United Kingdom)
Northampton Guildhall is a Grade II-star listed building - an indication of its architectural significance - and one of only 3 in the town. The Guildhall was built in the 1860s in Victorian neo-Gothic style to designs by the architect Edwin William Godwin. The building is decorated with statues of kings who visited Northampton and other worthy people with local connections. The Guildhall is the working home of the Northampton Borough Council and is a popular venue for civil wedding ceremonies and other conferences and functions. The building is opened to the public for a few days each summer giving an opportunity to see the function rooms as well as disused prison cells which date back to the days when the building was used as the local courthouse.
