The Collioure Windmill (Collioure, France)

The tower of Collioure’s Windmill has been dated to 1340. Originally a cereal mill, it has been restored and transformed into an olive oil press. The mechanism is made almost entirely out of wood. Its restoration in 2001 by Mr. Bernard Garibal and his companions, follows the same plans as those used in 6 other windmills in the Languedoc Roussillon region. Before this restoration, the windmill was falling to ruins and had been unused since the 19th century. Since its restoration, it has been used mostly for special occasions, there is no miller or guided visits. Overlooking the bay and port of Collioure, it offers a viewpoint. To get there, there is a pedestrian path, a slightly steep walk through a park, in the Courtines district of Collioure.
