Sydney Town Hall (Sydney, Australia)

Sydney Town Hall was built between 1869 and 1889 from locally quarried sandstone. It is the oldest non-religious building in the city to still be used for its original purpose. The hall is the home of the local city government and is of grand Victorian style, similar to that of the Queen Victoria Building which stands nearby and St Andrew’s Cathedral which is next door. The main hall contains the world’s largest entirely mechanical pipe organ with 8000 pipes. Original Victorian features include ornate stained glass windows. The ‘bird cage’ lift is the only one of its kind in New South Wales and still uses its original motor. Note - opening hours cannot be added as the building is currently closed to the public but will reopen early next year. Photo is mine
