Sanssouci Palace (“Without Worries”) was erected on a terraced vineyard. The building works lasted from 1745 to 1747, the architect was Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff and it was King Frederick the Great himself who delivered the ideas and outlines for the design of the palace.The king used the palace as a summer residence, later it was extended by his successor Frederick William IV. The palace is regarded as one of the best examples of German Rococo architecture, the interior is still original and paintings by Watteau, Pesne and other artists decorate the halls. The palace is surrounded by Sanssouci Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.A visit of the interior is only possible by taking part in a guided tour.For opening hours and admission fees please visit the website, the entrance to the park only is free.
