In the heart of the small Cheshire market town of Sandbach, stand two ornately carved stone crosses which are believed to date to the 9th Century. The crosses have had a tough past, being taken down, broken up and moved to other locations before finally returning to Sandbach in 1816. The site is a Grade 1 listed monument and is significant because it indicates that the town was a significant centre of early sculpture. The crosses are accessible at all times and no fee is charged to see them.
