Accommodations in Berlin near Nikolaiviertel (Berlin, Germany)
Nikolaiviertel (Berlin, Germany)
Nikolaiviertel is situated on the shore of Spree, between the river Spree and the Aleksanderplatz area. It was founded in about 1200 together with the settlement of Cölln. In the Second World War Nikolaiviertel suffered from massive bombings and was destroyed during the street battles. Architect Günther Stahn reconstructed buildings in 1981 to 1987 for Berlin’s 750th anniversary. Nikolaiviertel represents several historic buildings from 17th, 18th and 19th century, which originally stood elsewhere. In the centre of the Nikolaiviertel is situated St. Nikolai Church, that dates from 1230. The district of Nikolaiviertel includes numerous small shops for antiques, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants. Here are situated some tourist attractions like Knoblauchhaus (Knoblauch House), Hanf-Museum (Hemp Museum) and Emphraim-Palais Museum. The nearest U-bahn station is Klosterstraße (U2).
