Merseyside Maritime Museum (Liverpool, United Kingdom)

Merseyside Maritime Museum opened in 1980 and records the history of the port of Liverpool. The museum is housed in a former bonded warehouse which forms part of the Albert Dock on the banks of the River Mersey. The collections in the museum tell the story of Liverpool as a gateway to the world from the 17th to the 20th century including the city’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, emigration and immigration, the story of Liverpool’s seafaring heritage and the history of the merchant navy. There is also a Maritime Archive and Library containing an extensive collection of merchant shipping records. Entry to the museum is free. Opening times: Daily 10am-5pm Closed - 24 December (from 2pm) and all day on 25, 26 December and 1 January.
