Marzahn Recreational Park (Berlin, Germany)
The Berliner Gartenschau first opened its gates to the public in 1987. Before hand it was agricultural land situated in the Berlin-Marzahn area. Offered as a gift for the GDRs 750th anniversary, the park was renamed the Gardens of the World in the Recreational Park Marzahn in 1991. Trees and lawns were planted to make it an attractive recreational area of 21 acres. Amongst bushes and flowers are camouflaged 10 figures of Christian Anderson and the Grimm brother’s fairy tales. Fourteen fountains, a flower theatre, a Chinese and other Oriental gardens compose the park. Some of the gardens are closed to the public between October and March. The park is open daily from 9am to dusk (4pm from November to February, 6pm in March and October, and 8pm from April to September). There is a car park on the Eisenacher Straße entrance. Entrance tickets cost 3€ for an adult, 1,50€ for children and the disabled, free for children under 5 years old and people in wheelchairs. Also wheelchairs are lent out freely at the Eisenacher Straße entrance.
