Knowsley Safari Park (Liverpool, United Kingdom)

Knowsley Safari Park offers a 5 mile safari through 450 acres of historic parkland. There are around 30 species of mammal that roam over 200 hectares of land, plus a few birds, reptiles and invertebrates. Animals include large groups of lions, ostriches, tigers, rhino and elephants. The animals must be viewed from inside an enclosed vehicle. The park was opened to the public in July 1971 by the 18th Earl of Derby and today is directed by the 19th Earl of Derby. The safari park was the first to be built close to a large city - it lies only 8 miles (13 km) from Liverpool city centre. At the time it was a relatively new idea to have a safari park where the visitors are enclosed instead of the animals. Knowsley Safari Park is situated just off Junction 2 of the M57. During summer (1st March to the 31st October) the opening times are from 10am till (Last entry) 4pm. In Winter (1st November to the 28th February) the opening times are from 10.30am till (Last entry) 3.00pm.
