Accommodations in Lloret de mar near Jardins de Santa Clotilde (Lloret de mar, Spain)
Jardins de Santa Clotilde (Lloret de mar, Spain)
The Santa Clotilde gardens just outside Lloret de Mar were designed in the 1920s by the well known landscape gardener Rubió. The spirit of artistic renewal in Catalonia at that time looked to the Italian renaissance. He took as his inspiration the Florentine gardens of the Villa Medici, the Villa Borghese and the Boboli and created a fusion of formal and natural elements. Avenues are perfectly straight, but lead to interesting ornamental items such as statues or fountains, and groups of trees seem to merge with the surrounding landscape. Its position on top of a cliff provides different levels so that terraces overhang and steps and ramps break up the uniformity. The many fountains and springs provide features and a background murmur of flowing water which combines with the panoramic views over the sea. Opening hours are Tuesdays to Sundays, 10am to 8pm, April to September and to 5pm the rest of the year. Closed Mondays. Guided tours are available (included in the entry price) at 10.30am on Saturdays and Sundays.
