Glienicke Palace was commissioned by Prince Carl of Prussia in 1826. The prince had spend some time in Italy and desired an Italian style summer residence after he returned to the German capital. The summer palace was designed by Friedrich Schinkel in a late classical style, the surrounding gardens were landscaped by garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné. The entrance to the luxurious residence is flanked by two golden lions which are part of Schinkels design. The interior of the palace features original furnishings and paintings. The palace and the park that surrounds it are UNESCO World Heritage sites as part of the Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin since 1990.
