The Galleries of Justice was in use as a Court and Prison for around 200 years until the 1980s. Now it is a museum offering a tour through 300 years of prison/court life and crime and punishment. Visitors to the Galleries of Justice are assigned a prisoner number and after being sent down from the dock in the original courtroom, are guided through the cells by the attractions “gaolers” and “prisoners” Visitors will gain an insight into the type of crimes that were committed and the extent of the punishment they received, as well as experience the harsh conditions of the day.
