Dublin Zoo was opened in 1831 by the Zoological Society of Ireland. The first animals came from London Zoo. Research and conservation are the basic objectives of the zoo. The zoo is situated in the centre of the city, in Phoenix park and covers 62 acres of land. Opening times are, in November and December from 9.30am to 4pm, in January from 9.30am to 4.30pm, in February from 9.30am to 5pm, in October, 9.30am to 5.30pm, and from March to September, from 9.30am to 6pm. All year around the zoo is open 7 days a week. Admission prices are of 15€ for adults and 10€ for children from 3 to 16 years old. Entrance is free for children under 3 years of age. The zoo allows visitors to meet the zoo keepers who present the animals, their needs and the conservation work necessary for each species. There are 235 species of wild animals and tropical birds to see. The zoo is separated into themed spaces, including the World of Primates, World of cats, the reptile house or the African Plains.
