Covering an area of 11 acres the Cruikshank Botanical Gardens are partly owned by the University of Aberdeen. They are built on land that was bequeathed to the city by a wealthy resident, Miss Anne Cruickshank in memory of her brother Dr. Alexander Cruickshank and opened in 1898. The gardens are open daily for the public until dusk but are also used for educational and research purposes. Admission is free.
