The Bernina Express is a train that is operated by the Swiss rail network, Rhätische Bahn. It runs between Chur and St Moritz. The most popular section for tourists however is between Thusis and Bergen. It climbs through the Bernina Pass in the Alps and reaches a height of 2253 metres. The train passes over several viaducts and through numerous tunnels along its route. Many of the trains have full glass windows and roofs to provide unrestricted views of the valleys, forests and mountains along the way. Both first and second class tickets are available and pre-booking is recommended. A discount of 20% is available for large groups of over 10 people, plus every tenth person travels free. The cost of a standard second class ticket between Thusis and Bergen is 27CHF (17 Euros). The journey from Chur to St Moritz is about 130km and takes approximately 1.5 hours. Trains run daily every hour and operate between 9am and 6pm.
