The banks of the Seine, from the Pont de Sully at the eastern end of the Ile de la Cité to the Pont d’Iéna at the Eiffel Tower, have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both the left and right banks are included in the area which takes in major attractions such as Notre-Dame, the Sainte Chapelle, the Grand and Petit Palais, the Louvre, Place de la Concorde and the Eiffel Tower. The area shows the “evolution of Paris and its history”, from medieval gothic buildings to the 19th century Eiffel Tower and Haussmann’s boulevards.
