Bahia Honda State Park (Marathon, USA)

From the Spanish meaning “deep bay” Bahia Honda is one of the relatively undeveloped islands that make up the lower Florida Keys. Located 12 miles south of Marathon, the Overseas Highway passes over the island on its way to Key West. The State Recreation Area is Florida’s southernmost park and its beaches provide facilities for snorkelling, bathing, fishing, camping, boat rental and bird watching. There is also a nature centre. Dominating one end of the island is the old steel trestle bridge which was built by Henry Morrison Flagler in the early 1900s to take the railway across the deep water channel on its way to the terminal at Key West. Opening hours: Daily 8:00 am to sundown Admission: Per person $2.50
