Aston Hall (Birmingham, United Kingdom)

Aston Hall is the oldest of the community museums run by Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery. References to it date back to the Domesday Book. The current Jacobean style building is 400 years old and for most of that time it was owned by the Holte family. The city acquired it in the 1860s and ensured its preservation. The rooms are decorated with paintings, furniture and textiles from the museum collections. The surrounding 52 acres of parkland were laid out in a formal style in the 1920s. A major restoration project was underway throughout 2007 to create new exhibitions and displays. Entry is free. On the first Sunday of every month from May to October a free history bus runs linking the main Museum and Art Gallery with the five community museums including Aston Hall.
