Since 1981 a UNESCO World Heritage monument, the Amiens cathedral is also the biggest (145 meters length) mediaeval building in France, and the highest cathedral (42 meters). It was started in 1220 and finished in 1288. It contains a relic which is alleged to be the head of John the Baptist. Another remarkable feature of the building is the sheer number of sculptures on the façade. During the summer months, a laser show gives the statues of the façade back their original colours.
