The Borrowdale Hotel offers Lake District visitors the chance to stay in an 1866, 4-star character hotel, which retains Victorian features and an area-typical slate exterior, as well as lovely views of the Borrowdale Valley. Guests will find themselves a ten-minute walk away from Lake Derwentwater and the Lodore Falls, and in the right place for decadent afternoon teas. Guests at The Borrowdale said they found the staff to be welcoming and courteous, and mentioned there was a relaxed atmosphere, even down to a dress code encouraging walking gear. The hotel also appears to be dog friendly, with rooms available for those wishing to travel with their canine companions, as well as for those who want animal-free lodgings.
The food on offer here was generally thought to be very good, matched with a fine silver service, wide-ranging menu and a very extensive selection of wine, as well as simpler dining options in the conservatory — although a few early 2016 visitors thought the food was not as good as it used to be. On top of this, guests enjoyed the free coffee in the conservatory.
Reviews indicate that this hotel offers a traditional-styled country house stay with comfortable rooms, free parking and views of Derwentwater from quarters. On top of this, the location was thought to be excellent for those wanting to head out walking in the fells and woodlands.
A small number of those who stayed at The Borrowdale found the rooms to be a little too cramped for their liking, some occasionally thought it a tad expensive and a few said their rooms smelled a little odd on arrival, most likely due to dog-related cleaning.
