The Blazing Donkey Country House Hotel (Sandwich, United Kingdom)

Even those guests who found cause for concern with other areas of the Blazing Donkey almost consistently mention that they found the staff were friendly and caring. It does sometimes seem that they are working against the tide in some areas but they do, at least, do it with a smile on their face.

Rooms at the hotel don't entirely escape criticism but the general consensus appears to be the accommodation is reasonably clean and comfortable. Some refurbishment would certainly improve matters but guests find that basic needs are covered.

Guests tend to like the location of the Blazing Donkey, commenting how the hotel is within easy reach of destinations such as Ramsgate, Dover and Sandwich Bay. Guests also note that the concierge services are very good - the staff's knowledge about the local area means you can expect some great insider info.

Several guests mention that they were unable to access the free Wi-Fi advertised at the hotel. One guest even comments that the staff told them the Wi-Fi doesn't often work. This is frustrating for leisure guests and can be a deal breaker for those travelling on business.

Breakfast doesn't start until 8am and this was too late for some guests, especially those who were staying during the week on business. On the plus side, guests tend to find the breakfast enjoyable.

Despite finding the staff friendly, it seems that the hotel is so understaffed at times that the service suffers as a result. Just a few members of staff sometimes appear to be left to run a packed restaurant and attend to rooms. It hardly seems surprising that service is consequently slow.
