Situated in Coniston, the Black Bull Inn is housed in a 17th century coaching inn. The inn provides a bar, restaurant and accommodation near the ‘Old Man’ mountain and Coniston Water. The inn has 15 rooms, each one en-suite with a flat-screen TV and tea/coffee making facilities. Nine rooms are in the main inn with the remaining rooms situated in separate accommodation within the grounds. Overnight guests can check-in from 2 until 10 pm and check-out is by 11 am. Children and pets are welcome and free parking is available on-site. A full English breakfast is free. Plus, guests can enjoy lunch, afternoon tea and evening meals on-site in the bar area or the dining room. Private dining space is available. The Black Bull lies 13 miles from the World of Beatrix Potter Attractions, 35 miles from the Castlerigg Stone Circle and 40 minutes from the South Lake Safari Zoo.

Guests are happy with the location of the Black Bull Inn. Coniston is one of the most popular areas of the Lake District and has a good choice of shops and restaurants to keep you entertained. The wider area is great for walking or boat trips.
Previous guests have almost exclusively enjoyed the breakfast here, describing the food as beautifully cooked and nicely presented. The same high standards are often reported by guests who enjoyed lunch or an evening meal, although some did find the cost of dining high.
If you're partial to trying a new beer or two, you might find a new favourite here. Guests describe the selection of local beers available in the bar as excellent.
Although the rooms are often described as reasonably comfortable and of a good size, there do appear to be some problems. A fair number of previous guests have thought the rooms were in need of updates or, at the very least, a good clean.
Unfortunately, the tranquil surroundings of the Lake District National Park don't guarantee a peaceful night. Guests mention that they were able to hear noise from the bar and comment that even those rooms in the grounds don't escape the sound of kegs being moved in an adjacent microbrewery.
With the exception of the dining rooms, dogs seem to be welcome in all areas of the Black Bull Inn. While this is great for dog lovers, other guests mention that they found it overwhelming and said the smell of dogs was strong.
