The Berry Hotel is a two-minute walk from Paignton’s shops and beaches in Torbay, on the English Riviera. This family run operation offers a level of service not easily found in larger and much more expensive hotels. The welcome is warm and service thereafter, including at breakfast, is quick, efficient and courteous.
There's a ‘live music' pub virtually on the doorstep. It doesn't intrude, but it's a handy place for a drink, maybe a bite to eat, good company… and perhaps, for those with (*yet to be appreciated) stars in their eyes, a spot of karaoke!
Can't really fault the rooms. They are spacious, very clean and there's plenty of storage space. You can also angle the TV so you can see it from anywhere. Rooms are great and the free Wi-Fi is better than expected. Rooms are en-suite but, at first-floor level, there is also a communal bathroom … with a bath!
There's a buzz from outside revellers which seems to calm down after midnight, so that's not too bad. Inside, walls are very thin so you can hear virtually everything that's going on.
Depending upon the floor, access is via narrow and steep stairs. Difficult with luggage and a bit of a worry for the elderly and those with health issues. There's another tight fit getting in to breakfast: the times are short and constricted.
Winter is the ‘off' season and that's when the heating should swing into action. On arrival, there's no reason why visiting guests shouldn't find a waft of welcoming warmth, as opposed to the icy cold rooms that are waiting here..
