Having been subject to recent renovations, rooms include climate control, safe, coffee/tea maker, desk; some boasting views over the Arabian Gulf. Executive suites come complete with a spacious living room and well-equipped kitchen. Valet parking is available, Wi-Fi is free, and leisure facilities include a rooftop pool, sauna, steam room and gym. The hotel also offers a same-day laundry service. There are three dining options at Sheraton Khalidiya Hotel; Downtown; popular for its sushi and sashimi, La Veranda; serving a fine dining a la carte menu and 3rd Avenue; a pub restaurant. Abu Dhabi Cornice, the Khalidiya Mall and the public beach can all be found less than 200m from the hotel, with Al Hosn Palace 1.5km away and the International Airport is a 30-minute drive.
There is plenty within easy reach and, for those journeying further out, taxi's are reasonable and there is a bus situated opposite the hotel entrance. For drivers, the hotel operates a free valet parking service.
With three restaurants and 24-hour room service available, guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining. The latest addition; the 3rd Avenue Pub, has proven popular with both locals and guests alike and, for guests staying for longer periods, there are also numerous restaurants within walking distance.
Guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, with outstanding views from some. Previous guests have praised the beds and the quality of both the bedding and linen and have been pleased to see that, unlike in many hotels, there is plenty of storage space for belongings. Rooms are cleaned daily and the air conditioning works as it should.
The rooftop pool is an added bonus but, for some guests, there is room for improvement. There is no denying that it is small and, although you'd expect it to be warm given that it is exposed to high temperatures, previous guests have suggested this is not the case.
Some guests have reported a slight, but noticeable, damp odour in the bathrooms, while others have noted areas of mould. Regardless of the cause, most are disappointed that these issues are not being sufficiently addressed.
It is understood that, contrary to what the name might suggest, the hotel is now no longer owned by Starwood (owners of the Sheraton brand) and, in the time since, has not been maintained. A refurbishment programme is, apparently, underway however and returning guests have noted recent improvements.
