The hotel is surrounded by extensive private gardens providing a very peaceful and scenic backdrop. Many guests thoroughly enjoyed the stunning views of the Bassenthwaite Lake from their rooms as well as the hotel’s bar and lounge. During warmer weather guests enjoyed sitting out in the garden with their drinks, relaxing and admiring the scenery.
Guests enjoyed spending time in the bar which was described as comfortable and well- stocked as well as the lounge with its comfy arm chairs and open fire. The games room was also popular with many guests who enjoyed playing snooker and pool or some of the many board games available.
The rooms have been described as very clean and well-presented with all the necessary amenities. Guests were equally complimentary about the bathrooms stating that they were modern and equipped with powerful showers and up-to-date fittings and fixtures.
Some guests found it rather cumbersome having to fill out a form the night before if they wanted to have a cooked breakfast the following morning. Those who were not aware of this protocol were disappointed to find that they couldn’t enjoy a freshly prepared meal.
The dinner menu has been described as quite limited by some guests and those who stayed here for a few days objected to having to eat the same dish on more than one occasion.
The Wi-Fi signal was said to be very weak which meant that many couldn’t access the internet from their rooms and could only connect near the hotel's reception area.
