Norwood Hotel (Winnipeg, Canada)

Rooms are generally clean, tidy and well-furnished and decorated. Beds are comfortable and the quality of bed linen and towels is quite high.

It’s a very good location for business guests and for those who are visiting the nearby St. Boniface Hospital for one reason or another. There’s usually a taxi waiting outside the hotel so that makes hospital access even quicker and more convenient.

Members of staff are always pleasant, friendly and helpful. Difficult to fault them in any way.

For the price they charge here, you automatically expect a pool, fitness centre etc. There is no pool and any fitness facilities are nearby. Whilst, for the latter, prices are discounted for hotel guests, they should really be on-site and free. It all comes down to value and whilst other aspects of the hotel are OK, you would expect the tariff to be lower for what is actually on offer. A final sting in the tail is that breakfast isn’t included in the tariff either. If it was, some of these other failings may be … easier to swallow.

Not the hotel’s fault, but the one-way traffic system seems to be designed in the form of a maze – with the hotel in the centre. It’s quite difficult to access.

Aspects of the rooms are showing signs of age and of becoming dated. The room itself is clean but not super clean. For the hotel to let a room where the TV doesn’t work shows another weakness in their procedures. These things aren’t deal breakers but, again ... you do expect better for these prices.
