The hotel boasts an enviable position in the Cairngorn Mountains, where there are lots of opportunities for hiking, skiing and other winter sports. Aviemore and Inverness are both within easy reach by car. There is a generous sized car park, which is very convenient for those arriving by car.
The staff at the hotel are friendly and efficient, with reception in particular receiving many compliments.
The hotel has lots of charm from the outside, and stepping inside is like stepping back in time. It reportedly has a very traditional, rustic atmosphere.
Some rooms have been refurbished and are decorated to good standard, others are smaller and in need of some TLC. The beds are on the small side and are reportedly only adequate for a short stay. Guests have also felt that if their room was empty for a period of time before checking it, it could have benefitted from a quick refresh to get rid of any dust or cobwebs that had accumulated.
The hotel is quite expensive and with higher room rates lead to higher expectations. Many of the negative reviews seem to revolve around this with guests expecting more than what they actually received. The hotel is reportedly looking tatty in places and is in need of a refurbishment, according to guests.
Breakfast is a source of contention amongst previous guests with many reviews stating that the food needs improving. This is in terms of quality and quantity with guests going down to breakfast to find that they have run out of food.
