Most guests find the rooms to be sparkling clean, with comfortable furnishings and plenty of space. Guests in the front-facing rooms enjoy their view of the nicely maintained grounds. Many comment on the comfortable beds, and those in the Privilege and Superior Rooms comment that they provided good added value for the added expense, with robes, slippers, unlimited movies, and a Nespresso coffee machine.
Most guests give the front desk staff rave reviews for their personable and professional customer service. Drivers note that the striking old building is easy to find, that there is plenty of free parking, and that the hotel is within an easy drive of Bingley, Shipley, and the Yorkshire Dales.
Most guests thoroughly enjoy the full English buffet breakfast, as well as the dinner menu. The wait staff get high marks for pleasant, attentive service.
The hotel is a popular choice for weddings and other functions, but unfortunately the parties seem to occasionally conflict with the needs of private guests; several guests were disturbed by noisy music, party-related messes in the parking lot, or otherwise inconsiderate guests running "wild" in common areas. Some guests who reported the issues were disappointed to find that they were not effectively addressed in the moment.
While many guests enjoy the Gothic charm of the main building, they are generally less pleased with the more recent addition which houses many of the rooms. Several guests note issues with room temperature and overall condition, particularly of the windows and bathrooms. Others note that the walls are a little thin, and note that they could overhear their neighbours speaking at normal volume.
While most guests found the staff to be friendly and hard working, several also noted that they seemed to be stretched a bit thin, reporting long waits in the restaurant and bar.
