Excellent location near the sea.

The Gambia is a slim country, and space by the sea is limited. The Kairaba is one of the few hotels that can boast owning some of this prime real estate.

Gardens are beautiful and well-maintained.

Although other aspects of the hotel might have dimmed, the gardens have stayed wonderfully manicured.

Ebola scare has damped the atmosphere.

With many tourists shying away from the area due to Ebola fears, many services at the hotel have been cut back. Restaurants, for example, may not be open as long as advertised. It is important to know, however, that The Gambia is so far Ebola free.

Renovation needed.

The hotel is getting older and it's showing. While renovations are underway, they are going slowly. Some rooms have been refurbished, and some have not, so make sure to ask before checking in which kind yours is.
