Guests described the Wordsworth's individually furnished rooms as attractive, clean and comfortable. They loved the big beds and reclining chairs and several commented that the rooms were a reflection of the owners' attention to detail and the hotel's overall ambience. Secure parking was a welcome feature and many said they would definitely return when visiting the area.
On Main Street in the heart of historic Cockermouth, the Wordsworth Hotel was perfectly situated for most guests. They enjoyed the warm and friendly pub downstairs and the nearby shops and restaurants. With the Lake District just a short drive away, the hotel served as a perfect base for visiting the area.
For many guests, the four sisters who own and manage the Wordsworth were a big part of the hotel's appeal. Guests mentioned the sisters by name and said they did everything possible to create a warm and friendly atmosphere and to ensure a satisfactory experience.
While many guests appreciated the vibrant pub below, some guests trying to sleep in the rooms above found the Wordsworth a little too noisy especially on weekend evenings when music played into the wee hours. Merrymakers on the street outside the pub contributed to the problem.
Most guests found very little to dislike about the Wordsworth, but a few would have like more pillows while others found the pillows hard.
The Wordsworth is an old building and has no lift; for some guests with heavy suitcases, this presented problems.
