The hotel's location in the city's oldest area puts guests within walking distance of all of San Juan's historic landmarks. The historic locale was said to be quaint, quiet, and very close to museums and restaurants.

Guests stated that the rooms were elegant, stylish, and more unique than typical chain hotel rooms. People loved the traditional charm of the old building and furnishings, stating that the villa is great for those who want to experience authentic “old world” Puerto Rico.

The staff was highly praised for their warmth, hospitality, and efforts to create a relaxing environment. Employees were said to be diligent in their work, knowledgeable about San Juan, and willing to help travellers find their way around.

Reviewers noted that although the rooms were clean and comfortable, they were also a bit small. Furthermore, the older accommodations lack windows and not all of the rooms have balconies which visitors would have liked.

A number of guests reported a few problems owing to the age of the building. The hotel is not ideal for those with accessibility problems as there are narrow staircases and no lift. Other people had problems with water pressure and temperature in their showers.

The hotel building surrounds a courtyard where guests can take their breakfast, and some visitors stated that the noise carries into the rooms in the morning. Reviewers also said that the first-floor rooms near the hotel entrance can get noisy from foot traffic.
